Summary

Having an overview of professional development with respects to educational technology is critical particularly for those individuals responsible for designing and implementing professional development. For a couple of decades, professional development efforts were focused on increasing a teacher's competency in using hardware and software. Research indicates that overall student motivation and achievement improves through integration. The argument for the need for effective professional development is clear. However, when looking at the history of professional development in educational technology, a focus on teacher competency to increase technology integration has not proven to successful in systematic change. Educational leaders must understand sound theoretical models in professional development while recognizing that efforts based on adult learning theories is fundamentally important.

Make sure that your discussion and assignment include analysis of how theoretical frameworks and adult learning theories can facilitate effective professional development efforts.
